Churchill Downs acquires Chasers Poker Room, New Hampshire
Gambling Insider
Churchill Downs Incorporated, (CDI), has reached an agreement to buy Chasers Poker Room at Salem in New Hampshire.
Under their agreement, the charitable gaming facility will be brought under Churchill Downs’ umbrella, expanding the company’s footprint.
Chasers, which opened in 2017, offers poker. But CDI appears most interested to use the facility for historical horseracing operations here in the Granite State.
New Hampshire authorised existing charitable gaming operators to offer historical horseracing in 2021, and Chasers’ location, some 30 minutes away from Boston, would provide a north-eastern hub for CDI’s signature offering.
CDI intends to build an additional facility in Salem for historical racing machines (HRMs) after closing.
Bill Carstanjen, Churchill Downs CEO, commented: “New Hampshire is an exciting opportunity for us, one that allows us to put our historical racing machine expertise to work in the growing New England market.
“We look forward to sharing more about our plans to build an expanded, state-of-the-art gaming facility in Salem in the coming months.”
Churchill stated that the transaction depends on customary and usual closing conditions. These include approvals from New Hampshire Lottery Commission.
If all goes well, New Hampshire, Kentucky and Virginia will soon be joined by New Hampshire as the fourth states where Churchill Downs conducts historical horseracing.
New Hampshire law allows a percentage of the revenue generated by charitable gambling operations to be allocated to licensed non-profit organizations.
