The Standards Commission of NOSE II

The NOSE II Network continued the initial efforts of NOSE I to enhance the use of standards in the field of sensors and e-noses. The main task was to work out own recommendations for standards and to foster their use in the sensor and e-nose community. Other tasks were to participate in activities of other organisations and European institutions, represent the artificial olfactory sensing community of the NOSE II network to the European Union and their organisations and, at the same time, to represent the European efforts as far as the establishment of standards for artificial olfactory sensing is concerned.

Standards Commission definition

The Standards Commission was composed by selected members of the NOSE II Steering Committee, the Working Group leaders, and other experts in the field. It was the central contact point and advisory body to national, European, and international organisations active in standardisation for initiatives regarding the field of artificial olfaction and chemical sensor instrumentation. The Standards Commission further had an advisory function for the members of the network, the SC, and e-nose manufacturing industry.

Working Groups

To achieve those goals the NOSE II network was creating Working Groups (WG) sharing experiences, expertise and know-how within the science of e-noses with the aim of contributing to the development of the Standards Commission.

The topics of the WGs were:

  • Standard data format for electronic nose data
  • Hardware-Software Interfaces

Long time goal

The Standards Commission is expected to initiate independent activities seeded by the the support of NOSE.
