Workgroup: HW-SW Interfaces

Workgroup leader: Cosimo Distante, CNR Lecce, Italy

The long term objective was to define a standard interface both at the sensor/transducer and the network level.

The following capabilities had to be taken under consideration in the definition:

  • self-identification towards a control system,
  • network data sharing
  • plug & play
  • other functionalities that include: auto-ranging, pre-processing capabilities, self-calibration and data acquisition.

The work of the NOSE WG consisted of four parts.

  1. State of the art gas sensor devices for Electronic Data sheets definition
  2. Common electronic interface definition
  3. Firmware definition: functional policy, communication mechanisms
  4. Demonstrator which implements an API driver definition, that provides access to Electronic Data Sheets, sensor readings, actuator control, triggers and interrupt requests.

Activities Reports

This document describes the new and improved implementation of a Gas Sensors STIM (as defined in IEEE 1451.2) developed at the University of Barcelona in the frame of the NOSE standardisation activities.
