The short course, entitled “Fundamentals of sensors systems”, was devoted the concept of a chemical gas sensor arrays based on the IEEE 1451 standard. It was addressed to students and researchers in the field. The event was organized by the members of the NOSE II Working groups on standardisation and the NOSE project coordinators. The event was hosted by Prof. Giorgos Kiriakidis, IESL, FORTH, Heraklion, Crete, Greece. During the five days of the course, the necessary theoretical background from gas sensor technology, the driving and read-out electronics to interfacing sensors was covered. The short courses ended with a close look on the application side presented by end-users from academia and industry. The concept and technology of a standard data acquisition platform based on IEEE 1451 was introduced to the participants and was covered in most of the lectures. The agenda of the course was again twofold (having the good experience and positive feedback in Alpbach in mind): lectures were given by members of the e-nose community with several years experience in the field and a set of practical exercises has been devised to illustrate the theory and to give hands-on experience to the attendants. 41 participants were finally registered for the event. This shows again clearly the need for this kind of educational events in the e-nose and sensor community. The students with a background of mainly electrical engineering, physics, and chemistry, came from many different European countries. |
