We are a research group at the Institute of Physical Chemistry (University of Tübingen, Germany).
We are dealing with following research topics:

  • chemical gas sensors
  • basic understanding of sensor function
  • development of sensor systems ("e-noses") and application development

Please look also at AG Weimar description (Technologietransfer & Forschungskontakte) (German only!).

GOSPEL logo The GOSPEL Network of Excellence

GOSPEL is a Network of Excellence (NoE) under funding of the European Commission in the 6th framework programme coordinated by Udo Weimar and Nicolae Barsan. The main scientific focus of GOSPEL NoE is on Artificial Olfaction (AO) that means to

  1. understand the biological sense of smell and mimic its relevant functions
  2. provide an objective, quantitative assessment of odour
  3. target also technically relevant and non-odorant gases even in complex mixtures

Artificial olfaction, according to this definition, will be performed and enabled developing multifunctional and intelligent microsystems including sensing, actuating, processing and interface functionality.

But, being a Network of Excellence the main project work within GOSPEL is not research itself rather than integration and the spreading of excellence, namely to structure the European research in the field of Artificial Olfaction (AO) with the declared goal of establishing Europe as a world leader in this field. The leadership shouldn’t be limited just to the scientific understanding, as it happened many times in the past, but expand into the technological development and commercial exploitation.
